As a matter of fact, you can. It will not be 5 minutes to downtown (actually, a few are) but Austin is easy to get around. I use the term “core” Austin … core = if you can get downtown within 15 minutes on a good day, it’s core. Here are some core Austin homes & condos for sale under $250k:

4507 Gillis – $194k, 2/1 in somewhat trendy upcoming neighborhood just across 290 / Ben White

2617 Carlow – $200k, bamboo floors, stainless steel, close to Central Market south

4801 S. Congress / Belaire Condos – $250k, contemporary condos built in 06, 10 minutes from downtown, ride your bike to South Congress

3801 S. Congres / SoCo Lofts – under $250k will be small but 5 minutes from the heart of South Congress, walk or bike to Gueros

5410 Sunshine – $229k, who wouldn’t want to live on this street and hum a little Katrina & The Waves? Adorable little 2/1 with huge yard just north of Hyde Park, 10 minutes from downtown

1718 W. St. Johns – $230k in mid-century Crestview (somewhat north Austin – walk to Ginny’s Little Longhorn); this trendy neighborhood is full of young professionals, urban remodels and octogenarians

5206 Andover – $235k, this neighborhood is appreciating at a fast clip because of the new Mueller development (the old airport, IH35 & 51st)

Bond Drive / Edgewick – $191-$210K, new construction just east of IH35 & Oltorf, 5 minutes from downtown, some views of downtown
