Residents may not to use sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.; violators face fines of up to $500.
New City of Austin water restrictions will begin May 1 and end Sept. 30. They include:
No customer may run yard sprinklers between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Odd-numbered residential addresses should water Wednesdays and Saturdays; even-numbered addresses on Thursdays and Sundays.
Violations are misdemeanors punishable by a fine of $500. Report violations by phone at 974-2199 or online at www.ci.austin.tx.us/watercon/water_leaks.cfm
If conditions get very dry, the city could tighten restrictions further, including cutting sprinkler use to between midnight and 10 a.m. and prohibiting restaurants from serving water unless customers request it. For details and tips, call the city’s conservation program at 974-2199 or visit www.tcmastergardeners.org.
