Mortgage Guarantee Insurance Corp (MGIC) continually researches and analyzes the real estate and employment markets of 73 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) & takes that information and publish market trend analysis on a quarterly basis.

The summary for Austin: Despite the slowdown in job growth, Austin has one of the better performing economies in the country. First qtr employment increased 3.2%, jobless rate held under 4%. There has been a decline in high-tech mfg but but software dev appears to be on the rise. Austin’s real estate market is holding up fairly well. Home prices appreciated 9% although existing home sales fell slightly.
